There have been many English classes I took over the years that helped me on my writing skills. Some help me get a lot better; some did not do much for me at all. I don’t know why some class worked and some did but I might have an idea. The 3 thing that made a writing class that work for me is first the teacher, then the learning materials, and lastly it could be what we are writing about.
The first reason why this class worked for me is because of the teacher. I have had two types of English teacher in my life. One just gives the instructions and does not help me much, what I mean by that is she sit in the corner and yells at you. The other type of teacher is a person who makes class fun, and helps you with your writing. That is what you are Mr. Hessert.
The next reason why this class helped me is because of the learning materials. The learning materials have a lot to do haw I learn. What I need is to see the subject and touch is so I can remember what I just learned. That is why the book we had this semester help me a lot, and it was a great.
The last reason why this class was good is because of what we wrote about. I had class were we all have to write about the same thing, and the thing we have to write about we hate. But what you gave us is the freedom to write about anything we want. It made the class more fun.

Book Review
The book I read is called The Eaters of the Dead By Michael Crichton. It about is a Middle Eastern prince that gets banished form his kingdom because he slept with someone he was not supposed to. So he and a translator go out into the desert search for a new home. On their journey they run into a bunch of Middle Eastern bandits. So they run form them, but just then they find a bunch of Northman in a middle of a funeral. To be safe from the bandits they join the Northman in the middle of the funeral. After the funeral they sit down for dinner. During the dinner an old lady comes out called the witch said that there is a trouble in the north and thirteen warriors have to go up and fight the evil, so twelve people volunteer. Then she said that the thirteen warriors can’t be a Northman, so that mean it the Middle Eastern prince. Then they go to this village in the north, on the way the prince learns how to speak their language. When they get to the village they find the town is being killed by an old evil, and they need the thirteen warriors help to get rid of it. At the end they kill all the evil but the leader has to die.
Why I chose this book is because Michael Crichton is my favorite author. His work is very good. Then the types of books he wrights I like a lot. Then the book is about Scandinavian people and I find that topic very interesting. That is why I chose this book, and I suggested this book to you. Another one of his book that is good is Prey, Timeline, and The lost world. His books are action books that take place in the further or the past. His books can very violent or they can be very serious government types of books. This book is good so far but my favorite one of his is Prey.

Narrative
The Super Bowl is a big event in a lot of Americans homes. What the Super Bowl is a time for the best football team in the NFC, and the best team in the AFC to come together and find out who is the best in the NFL. What it means to me is a time to watch the game and always hope that next year my favorite team the Chicago Bears can go to the Super Bowl and win it. Well last season they we able to get there and I was so happy. The team they were going to play was the Indianapolis Colts.
The day started with me being very ecstatic because the bears were going to play in the Super Bowl. We were having a lot of people at my house to watch the game so the first thing I did was I cleaned the living room. After that my dad and I went shopping for some more food for the party. When we got home my dad started to cook the food and I when to get my football things. At 6:00 the guests started to arrive because the game started at 7:00. By then all the food was ready so every one started to pig out. Then it was 7:00 time for game. The game started out good with Hester running the opening kick off back for a touchdown. Then the Bears scored another touchdown with a pass. After the first quarter everything went down hill. The Colts started to score many points, and the bears kept on making big mistakes. The game was finally over, the final score was 27-17 the bears lost. I was very angry that they lost because I wanted them to win so badly, but I was still pleased that they were able to get there. Maybe they can go back next year and finally win it again.

Description
Many cities believe that they sell the best hot dog in the world. New York with their Coney dogs, and L.A with Pink, but not one comes close to the Chicago hot dog. There are many good hot dog stands in the great city of Chicago. Too Wolfs down town, and Hot Dog Island in Evanston, but the best hot bog stand in the city is Superdogs on Devon and Milwaukee.
When you drive up to this historical Chicago land mark you will see two giant hot dogs that are winking named Maury and Flaury dressed up in a Tarzan and Jane out fit. When you drive into the parking lot you will find a bunch of classic car. Since this place is a drive in you will pull in to an old parking stop with their old menu to the left of you that never changed. When you get out of the car you will be hit in the face with a great smell of hot dogs cooking. When you walk into the building to order, you will be greeted with a nice hiyah by Flaury. She is one of the owners. When you are waiting for your food you will be greeted by many other nice people form Chicago that is also waiting for their food.

Who Killed the Electric Car?
The First electric car was invented in 1834 by Tomas Davenport. The battery was un-rechargeable. In 1890 William Morrison built an electric car in Des Moines that could travel 14 mph. In 1895 the first auto race in America was won by an electric car. Then in 1899 the first land speed record was set in an electric car, it went 66 mph. In 1900 33% of all cars produced were electric cars. In 1967 the Electric Auto Association was formed. In 1981-1900 GM funded a prototype of an electric car. In 1996 GM revealed the EV1 to the consumer. Then in 2000 GM said they would no longer be making the EV1, and would start to take them back. By 2006 all the EV1 and the other electric cars that other companies built were now off the road.
Through 1834-2000 the electric car was making many great improvements and recorded. Why did they stop building the electric car, and why did they have to destroy the cars? Many people believe that it is the consumer fault, because the manufacturer felt like the consumer hated the EV1. The consumers said the car was to small, not enough miles. In reality the car was perfect for the average American person, because no one travels more than 22 miles a day, and the car was a perfect size for an average person. The next thing GM said was wrong with the car was the battery technology, but there was nothing wrong with the batteries, GM just put in the bad batteries in the car. The next thing the consumers think killed the electric car was the hydrogen cell. They said that the hydrogen cell made people forget about the car, and move into a technology that might never come. If it does come one day it will be a cleaner for transportation. If GM said that the hydrogen cell would make us forget about the electric car then why is the consumer talking about it now?
The suspects that I think that really killed the electric car were the Oil Company, GM, federal government, and CARB. The oil company stopped funding money for charging stations, so how would government pay for the charging stations. The answer is they can’t without raising taxes a lot and no one what that. It also said that the oil lobbyist pressured the government a lot to sell oil. The next group that is at fault is the federal government. The first reason they were at fault is they did not push the air mandate more; they just let it slip away. Then what the government should have done is made the oil companies pay for the charging stations. The last reason the government is to blame is when we had the cheap technology for an easy and clean electric car the government change direction with the hydrogen fuel cell, and that technology is very expensive and it might never come. The next group that is to blame is CARB. Why CARB are to blame is failed to steer the electric car in a good direction said the Who Killed the Electric car movie. The last group that is guilty is GM. GM is guilty because when the mandate was taken away in California They stopped making electric cars. Also when the mandate was gone they took back the EV1 that people were leasing for the company and destroyed the car, so they can never be on this earth again.

Definition
Victory is not losing, felling bad, or quitting. This word means to win, to have a sense of accomplishment, and always trying your hardest. Victory is a very powerful word. How the dictionary describes it as, to triumph over an enemy in battle or war. What that word means to me is I did something big to gain a victory. It could be when I am swimming, play water polo, or even just when I going to graduating high school. After I gain a victory in one of those fields I get a big sense of accomplishment and a good feeling that good just happen.
One example of me gets a victory in one of my water polo games. It was in my sophomore year in high school. It was at tournament at Highland Park High School. Their pool is not a nice one, so any game would be hard to win. In the tournament there are many games that you play, but if you don’t win a game in the first round you have to go home. Not one of us wanted to go home, so the first two games we played our hearts out. The first game was against GBS. That game started out ok, the first two quarters were very close, but in the second half we started to losses by a lot. That is because we don’t have a lot of people on our team so we could not get any rest time. The final score of that game was 16-3, we got killed. Then it was time for our next game, it was against Deerfield High School. We were all very tired, but if we losses we would go home. The game started very bad because both teams were very tired from the last game. Then in the last three quarters the game we started to win. We score so many goals that it was not funny. The final scored was 10-4, we won. We knew that we could beat them because we beat them earlier in the year. Then it was time for the next round. The team we were going to play was Highland Park High School. We did not have much confident in this game because we lost to them earlier in the year. Then the game started, it was a good game the whole time because if we lost we would have to go home. Each team played their hearts out, but at the end the final score was 5-4 we lost. But we didn’t feel like we failed because we walked out of there with a win and a little more respect too the Maine East High School water polo team. We also gained a victory; it might not have been in a form of a win but in pride.
What this word is not is loss, felling bad, and not happy. What I mean by that if you do not gain a victory once in your life than you will fell like that all the time. You will be a very sad person because if you don’t have a victory that means you never did anything in your life Then if you don’t try then you will never win, and if you always say you are going to do bad and never succeed then you will always loss. Demon Basketball
This year something big happened at Maine East High School. Our varsity boy’s basketball team won their regional and made it to sectionals. What they did had not happened in a long time; it was 30 something years the last time Maine East High School went to sectionals. The school went crazy. There were t-shirt hand out, sign made, and faces painted the day of the first sectionals game.
This was good for our school is we had this mentality that our school stinks at sports so why even try! Just winning a regional tournament will show the under classmen and in coming freshmen that if you work hard, it will pay off. This could be a start to something at Maine East where a person with talent will do a sport because they are good, or athletes make all their practices because they want to be there. Let’s bring back the old Maine East when schools in our conference were scared of playing us.

Swimming
Many people swim for fun, so do it just to stay alive, but I do it competitively. Swimming is a very a very good way to exercise, because the density of water is similar to the density of a human so you float in water. If you have joint problems the water helps support your joints. Swimming is mainly an aerobic exercise; it requires constant oxygen to the muscles. Some benefits to swimming are it relives stress, it improves one posture, and it helps you build a strong lean body.
There is all ways a down side to every thing. What people have to be careful with swimming is drowning, chemicals in the water like to much chlorine, objects in the water, bad water conditions, for example currents, swimming incorrectly, infection, and aquatic life such as sharks or jellyfish.
There are four main strokes in competitive swimming. They are freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. There are also many different things you can do with those four stokes. You can combine them all to make the individual medley, or the medley relay, or you can just make the race very long like the 500 freestyle. 2008 NFL Draft
In New York the past April was the 2008 NFL draft. It was not a very electrifying event, but it was a very important one because it decides whether your team can win the super bowl or just have another disappointing season. There were many big name player picks in this year’s NFL draft, Like Howie Long kid, Chris Long, or Matt Ryan from Boston College, and the first round pick Jake Long who went to the Miami Dolphins. The big thing that happed at the draft this year was that it is was the fastest NFL draft ever.
The team that did best in the 2008 NFL draft was the Chicago Bears. They did the best because they got guys to fill in vacant positions. Their number one pick was offense tackle, because they had the oldest offensive line. Then the 2 and 3 pick were a wide receiver and a running back, the positions they had trouble with them last season. Then their next 3 picks were all defense players. All 6 of those players could be starters this year, because they should have been first round draft picks but most of them get hurt a lot. In total the Bear ran away with 11 draft picks. That was one of the most this drafts. That is why the Bears did the best.

Football
American football started out as a form of rugby; the game of rugby is a game where you have a ball, and you have to get it to the other end of the field to score. The game of football is like rugby. The first difference of the two sports is that in football you always stop and start playing, in rugby you play straight through. The next difference is the equipment, football you get a lot more pads and a different ball. The last difference between the sports is the plays they run.
American football could not be how it is today without one person, his name is Walter Camp. He was born in a small town in Connecticut. For 50 years of his life he spent his time perfecting the rules. He is known as the father of football. Another big person in football history is Glen Scobey Warner. What he did for football is he made many new plays like the screen pass, the punt, the single and double-wing formation, and the use of shoulder pads. Today a kid football program is named after him. The last person who made football how it is today is George Halas. In late 1919 he bought a company football team that he later turned into the Chicago Bears. Halas is the man who started up the NFL as it is today.

Billy Goat
The Billy Goat Curse was given to the Chicago Cubs in the 1945 by a Greek immigrant named Billy Sianis; he owns a famous bar down the street of Wrigley Field called the Billy Goat Tavern. He bought two tickets to one of the games 1945 World Series, one ticket was for him the other ticket was for his goat. When he got to the gate of Wrigley Field the people at the gate would not let his goat. Then he got mad and said that the Cubs would never win another World Series, after that the Cubs lost that World Series and have not won one again since 1908, and have never been to it since 1945.
There have been many times they have gotten close to go to back to the bi game. On Sept 9 1969 the Cubs were in the playoffs against the New York Mets. In the second game Ron Santo was in the batter’s box warming up, out of nowhere a black cat came running by him. They ended up losing the series. Then in 1984 they had another chance to do it against the San Diego Padres. They were doing very well then they fell apart losing the series again. The last time they had a chance was Oct 14, 2003. They were playing the Florida Marlins, and it was the last game of the series. In the eighth inning there were 2 out, and then the Marlins hit a foul ball. Moises Alou went up to get it but a crazy fan named Steve Bartman went up and caught the ball. The next pitch the Marlins drove in the winning run. This year the Cubs a re starting out well, maybe this year they can break the curse.
There have been many different ways the Cubs try to reverse the curse. On April 15, 1965 Sianis said he lifted the curse. Then April 13, 1984 Sianis’ goat was invited to Wrigley Field. Then on Sept 22, 2003 Wrigley Field tried to transfer the curse on the Houston Astros by bring a goat to Minute Maid Stadium. The last thing a DJ tried was blowing up the Bartman ball on Feb 26, 2004.
What I think of the curse is that it is very real. If a team has been around for 100 years and can’t win a pennant, then there is something very wrong.

Moises Alou went up to get it but a crazy fan named Steve Bartman went up and caught the ball. The next pitch the Marlins drove in the winning run. This year the Cubs a re starting out well, maybe this year they can break the curse.
There have been many different ways the Cubs try to reverse the curse. On April 15, 1965 Sianis said he lifted the curse. Then April 13, 1984 Sianis’ goat was invited to Wrigley Field. Then on Sept 22, 2003 Wrigley Field tried to transfer the curse on the Houston Astros by bring a goat to Minute Maid Stadium. The last thing a DJ tried was blowing up the Bartman ball on Feb 26, 2004.
What I think of the curse is that it is very real. If a team has been around for 100 years and can’t win a pennant, then there is something very wrong.

water polo
Water polo started in London England in 1870. The sport was big with the swimming committee in England. They started by playing the modern day sport rugby in rivers and lakes. The person who made the rule to this game was William Wilson. Wilson was a journalist, swimming instructor and coach, and contributor to the scientific techniques behind competitive swimming. Then in the 2000 olympics water polo was made a sport in the olympic, that is when it became popular. If you what to learn more about the history click on History
The game starts with each teams swimming to the middle of the pool racing for the ball.
There are six men in the pool at once for a team plus the goalie.
You can only hold the ball will one hand.
You can never touch the botton of the pool, everyone has to be treding.
A player scores by wipping the right in to the goal.

The best game I ever had was this year. It was againt Highland Park High School. The game started out badly for us because we were lossing 3-1. We were not happy about that. Then in the next quater we tie it at 4-4. It felt better but we were in it to win it. The 3 quater was still tied at 5-5 five. Then it was the fourth quater 8 seconds left and I scored the winning goal. I was very happy that we won. We were not going to lose another game to them. Water polo is a very exting, physically demanding, and fun sport that all people should try or at least watch.
